Which Silverado Trim Level Is for You?
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has long been hailed as one of the best full-size pickups to come from the USA. It has an aggressively enticing face with excellent off-roading and towing capabilities. Despite its power – especially with turbocharged and V8 engine configurations – it’s a high-value vehicle for its class. Chevy has gone for raw looks with few frills on the base levels, but things get a little glitzier towards the upper trim levels.
As usual, the 2021 Silverado scores top marks for drivability, fuel economy, appearance, reliability, and safety. That’s not to mention what a pleasure it is to drive. When fitted with extras like drive-assistance features, rear-locking differentials, and 4-wheel drivetrains, the Silverado becomes just as adept off the road as on it. There are also plenty of trims and configurations available. So, here are the 2021 Silverado trim levels explained to help you choose the best one for your needs.
2021 Chevrolet Silverado Trim Comparison
The 2021 Chevy Silverado is available in eight trims: Work Truck (WT), Custom, LT, Trail Boss, RST, LTZ, LT Trail Boss, and High Country. All trims score high marks in crash and roll tests carried out by the NHTSA, though we applaud trims from the Chevy Silverado 1500 LT and above for their respectable safety and entertainment gadgets. They also come in a range of bed, cargo, and engine options, including diesel. Even base-level trims are available with a 4-wheel-drive transmission.
The lower Silverado trims, such as the entry-level Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Work Truck (WT), come with a stripped-out interior featuring raw essentials like manual windows, locks, and adjustable front seats. They are ideal if you want a rugged, no-frills work hauler with an attractively low price tag.
As you move up the trim levels, luxuries like head-up displays, wireless smartphone charging, and ventilated front seats come standard. With so many configurations, the list of mid to upper trim options is almost endless, but our favorites include the new Multi-Flex tailgate and the array of driver-assistance tech. Top-level trims come with a powerful V8, beefed-up 20-inch alloys, and gadgets like the Bose speaker system with subwoofer.

Which Silverado Trim Level Is for You?
Due to the vast number of configurations for each trim, the Silverado appeals to a diverse range of drivers. All trims boast excellent towing capacities for their respective classes, but while the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Work Truck (WT) comes with the lowest price tag, it lacks a lot of features you’d expect on a modern full-size low-duty truck.
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom boasts all the features of the WT but with upgraded interior and exterior style elements and a few tech and safety enhancements. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Trail Boss builds on the Custom trim with off-road features like 4WD transmission, a locking rear differential, and all-terrain tires.
While the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT removes some of the features that come with the Trail Boss, it’s the first trim that’s available with a turbocharged diesel engine and comfort-boosting features like heated seats and dual-zone climate control. For a sportier-looking Silverado that packs the power of the LT, choose the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST.
Road enthusiasts will love the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss. It looks similar inside to the LT and as sporty as the RST, but it’s only available in 4-wheel-drive. We’d recommend going for the 420-horsepower V8 option. Taking first place for comfort and luxury are the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country and, in our opinion, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ.
The Chevy Silverado LT is one of our best-selling full-size trucks, but all drivers have unique needs. Call us to find out which trim and configuration is best for you.
Need More for The Job? Check out the 2021 Chevy Heavy Duty Lineup
When properly equipped, a half-ton Chevy Silverado 1500 can tow up to 13,400 pounds, which is impressive for a full-size, low-duty truck. However, depending on your line of work, you might need a much more capable hauler. Fortunately, Chevy has you covered with its line-up of heavy-duty Silverado trucks: the 2500 and the 3500.
The Silverado 2500 and 3500 are true workhorses. They’re not quite as smooth as the tamer Silverado 1500, but they’re adept at off-roading and boast excellent towing capacities. The basic Chevy Silverado 2500 can tow up to 14,500 pounds, while the most capable Silverado 3500 can haul up to 35,500 pounds.
Silverado 2500 MSRPs* Silverado 3500 MSRPs*
WT $34,600 $35,800
LT $38,600 $39,800
Custom $39,400 N/A
LTZ $49,100 $52,100
High Country $61,600 $62,800
As well as the trim options, the Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500 come in around 22 configurations. If you want to learn more about what those configurations are and how they’ll affect your running costs and driving experience, we hope to hear from you.
